A Note to My Pregnant Friends...

...who are expecting boys:

While it may be expected in our society, you are not required to circumcise your little boy. I suggest before making the decision to do so or not to do so you do some serious research as this is not something you can go back on... And that is all I have to say about that.

How very PC of you.

We have 2 turtle necks in our house. Chris has to wear a sweater.

I thought this was a great post looking at a lot of questions surrounding circumcision. It's very informative and not condemning.

Thanks Mary! I still can't even fathom putting my baby through circumcision when they don't even use any anesthesia. Anyway, great info!

You cannot save your children from all pain in this life, and circumcision when they are at mere days or less of life will not affect them psychologically in any way. So yes, you can save YOURSELF from watching your baby cry. But it doesn't really matter to them. They will cry for a little bit and it will never bother them again. I've had 3 boys, all circumcised, and though they cry, well, they cry for shots, those pricks on the bottom of their feet to fill those blasted 10 circles...some pain is for good reason. And bonus, they won't remember in 5 minutes time.

The obsession, I think, with circumcision, is the biblical references which go back to the mosaic covenant. It was done as a symbolic act. Showing through an OUTWARD act that they would be circumcised of heart and of making covenants with their God. It was no longer required after the resurrection of Christ. People may get confused and not understand that we are now required just to be circumcised of heart, meaning we put off, or remove sins from ourselves. Perhaps people are trying to show their Christianity by circumcising.

Now whether to do it or not...personal choice. But I would much rather subject a baby that will have no recollection of it or suffering (other than the immediate pain from it) than tell them you can get it done later and have it be a surgery (which it is considered after they are 2 weeks of age). And as the article previously mentioned said, it seems to not really matter when it comes to sicknesses or disease or any other factors. Though I have heard the ladies enjoy it more. Lol.

As for me and my sons, It just felt right, so we did it. End of story!
